Deciding on a theme for your wedding is only half the battle. Next comes finding items that suit the style. This is made all the more difficult if you’re planning a vintage inspired wedding as vintage items are difficult to come by.
Today we talk to Quirky Parties who are a Cape Town based vintage decor hire and on the day styling company.
What is Quirky Parties, how did it begin?
We are a decor company with a focus mainly on anything vintage or different / quirky for all types of events. Our items range from vintage gramophones, lawn games like giant jenga, cake stands and more to list a few. We have been in the wedding industry since 2001 but it was only in 2009 Quirky Parties was created. Since then we have kept growing.
How involved are you with each couple? Do you only hire decor or do you help piece the concept and theme together?
A lot of our clients book their items online and we only ever meet for the first time when they collect their hired goods. It depends on the couple’s needs though. We definitely not scared to get our hands dirty. We always try and give advice and help where we can, its what we enjoy. We also offer on the day styling too. This means we would meet with the clients, come up with ideas, view the venue, set up and style their event start to finish.
Why vintage decor hire? Why do you think its become so popular?
Vintage decor often has such a rich story and iconic look. It’s a beautiful symbol of how things get better with age which lends itself well to weddings.
What are some of the biggest challenges you have encountered?
I can’t think of anything that stands out. We always try to be creative while also keeping focused on the requirements of the couple. The only challenge is time, especially when venues have very specific time slots in which you can work. That being said we have never ran out of time before we finished styling.
What are some of your most popular wedding hire items?
Our long length 70cm sparklers are always selling. Drinks dispensers really took off too. Lawn games like gaint jenga and croquet are always popular since they look great on camera. Our chalk boards are always out as they so simple to use for almost anything. Candy jars has also been a hit.
What is the process couples would take when hiring you to style their wedding?
When couples want us to style their wedding we try to make the process simple. We would either meet in person at our showroom or chat via email. Couples answer some basic question like date, size, budget, ideas and we go from there. Even if we can’t help a couple because we already booked we still like to give advice and help where we can.
What does the future of Quirky Parties look like?
The trends change and ideas come and go. Its more important for an event and wedding decor service like ours to not focus too far a head. We will continue to grow our range, build on our online presence and keep helping couples have the best day ever.
